National Cream Tea Day

So is it jam or the cream first?

When it comes to enjoying a British cream tea there is no better place than Devon - home of the delicious Devonshire clotted cream.

It is said that the 7th Duchess of Bedford created the ‘afternoon tea’ to prevent her from becoming hungry in the afternoons.  We can’t thank her enough and we can’t think of a better excuse to enjoy Devon-made scones with clotted cream and juicy strawberry jam.

The Cream Tea SocietyThe essential ingredient in a true cream tea is the cool and delicious clotted cream.  Clotted cream is very different from single, double or whipped cream. It is made by heating Devonshire cow’s milk for many hours until the cream rises to the surface and thickens, or clots - hence the name.

Here in Devon, the cream is traditionally spread first and the jam second - the correct way, right? When the jam is spread first and topped with cream, it’s considered Cornish … the other way.

Whichever way you choose to do it - enjoy it, with love from Devon.

Join in the celebration on Friday 26th June!

Create your best cream tea and enjoy it with those around you. Share your pics online and get the whole world jealous of this wonderful celebration of a truly British affair!
